Round 1 predictions: Ducks will edge Flames

Four Canadian teams down, one to go. The Calgary Flames will open their series in Anaheim Thursday night, where they’ve lost 26 times in a row. Will the 27th time be a charm?

Calgary Flames (45-33-4) at Anaheim Ducks (46-23-13)

Key numbers

Lines: Flames +150, Ducks -170

Flames
5-on-5 FF%: 50.1
Brian Elliott: .910
Goal differential: +5

Ducks
5-on-5 FF%: 50.1
John Gibson save percentage: .924
Goal differential: +23

This should be a close, hard-fought series, but when it comes down to it, I just can’t get past the goaltending match-up. Yes, Brian Elliott really turned it on in the second half of the season, but even with that epic run, he still posted a below average save percentage. Facing a Ducks team that can roll three scoring lines, has great goaltending and gets to start at home, I’m not sure how the Flames will be able to sneak out of the first round here. Ducks in 6.
